This March 23, Supreme Resolution No. published in El Peruano newspaper. By 045-2023-RE, the Government of Dina Poluarte officially announces the appointment of Walter Gutierrez as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to the Kingdom of Spain.

In this way, Gutiérrez Camacho will succeed former Prime Minister Óscar Maúrtua, who was appointed by the Pedro Castillo administration and will occupy the Peruvian Embassy in Spain between June 1, 2022 and January 25, 2023. The current government has decided to stop its operations.

Date of commencement of operations as specified in resolution Walter Gutierrez Headed by the Embassy of Peru in Spain, will be communicated in due course by another ministerial resolution to be published later.

This appointment will be approved by the Minister External relationsAna Cecilia Gervasi, and It has the approval of President Dina Boluarte.

It should be recalled that Walter Gutierrez held the position of Ombudsman from September 6, 2016 to April 30, 2022, when he was replaced on an interim basis by Eliana Revoler.

Questions for Walter Gutierrez

During 2022, the former ombudsman faced many questions. First, his permanence in the autonomous body was in doubt, nominally, Gutierrez’s term ends in September 2021.

However, with no announcement to this effect by Gutierrez or Congress, he remained in office until April 2022, when he finally chose to resign.

Similarly, another factor that Walter Gutierrez was criticized for at the time was his criticism of then-President Pedro Castillo and calls for his resignation, despite the inherent political neutrality of his position.
