According to Department of State (DHS)Consular officers are authorized to waive or waive from a personal interview, in person, certain persons applying for a first-time or renewing U.S. visa in the following categories:
- Seasonal Agricultural and Non-Agricultural Workers (H-2 Visas)
- Students (F and M visas)
- Educational Exchange Visitors (Academic J Visas)
- Persons in Specialized Occupations (H-1B Visas)
- Training or special education visitors (H-3 visas)
- Intercompany Transferees (L Visas)
- People with extraordinary abilities or achievements (O visas)
- Athletes, Performers and Presenters (B Visas)
- Participants in international cultural exchange programs (Q visas); and eligible descendants.
How long will the action last?
Until December 31, 2023, United States visas can be obtained without an interview.
How long can my visa expire to apply for an interview waiver?
Authorization to waive the personal interview applies to applicants renewing a visa in the same category within 48 months of the previous visa’s expiry.
